Paradise comes to Leigh

The Turnpike Gallery launches this summer’s Art Factory on Saturday 19th July (12 noon to 3.30pm) which will see the gallery transformed into an exciting, interactive exhibition which promises to bring a little bit of Paradise to Leigh.

Three artists have been commissioned to create interactive zones in the gallery using a variety of materials which visitors can explore. Each day one of the zones will be active with an artist ‘in residence’. Visitors will be able to share ideas about Paradise and start to build it within the zone. During the course of the exhibition, the empty spaces of the zones will begin to fill with accumulated objects, sounds, images and drawings made by the artists and visitors. Visitors will also be able to walk around the other two zones and touch the objects, listen to the sounds and look at the drawings.

There will be an artist in residence every weekday from 10.00am – 4.00pm and on Saturdays from 9.30am – 3.30pm. The exhibition is free and booking is not required.

Martyn Lucas, Visual Arts Officer at the Turnpike Gallery commented “Art Factory is an exciting and popular part of the Turnpike Gallery’s programme. Each summer it provides an interactive experience for visitors of all ages and, in particular, families. In recent years Art Factory has featured drawing machines, sound sculptures and light installations. This summers event looks to be as stimulating as ever”.

The exhibition continues until Saturday 6 September 2008. For further information contact the gallery office on 01942 404469.
