Play is Top Priority in Spring View
More young people in the Spring View
area will be able to discover the delights of play following the opening
of a new play area at Repton Avenue.
The new facility will be officially opened on Friday 18th April by Wigan
Leisure and Culture Trust’s Play team with children from St Mary’s
Primary School.
Play equipment that was originally on-site in Spring View had to be
removed in 2006 for safety reasons. The new play area has been fully
redesigned further to consultation days and play sessions with local
families. All of the equipment was chosen by local children and includes
a new High Wire Zip Line, Spinner and inclusive Basket Swing.
Deborah Freeman, Play and Early Years Manager, for Wigan Leisure and
Culture Trust, said, “The Spring View area was identified as a top
priority for development by the Township Environment Group through the
community playground strategy. It has been a real team effort to
complete this project and we have worked in partnership with the Local
Resident’s Community Group and St Mary’s Primary School to ensure that
local people have had a real input from start to finish.
“Play helps young people to develop physically, mentally and socially
and can have a huge impact in generating positive community spirit. We
hope the local community will share our pride at what has been achieved
here and will enjoy using the facilities for many years to come.”
The Local Residents Community Group provided £10,000 to assist with
funding for the play area, which will be maintained by Wigan Leisure and
Culture Trust. The whole project took six months from design stage to
completion.
