Sugar, Spice And All Things Nice

ONE of the region’s largest gatherings of chocolatiers, confectioners, cake bakers and ice cream makers will descend on Wigan town centre this weekend.

The Uncle Joe’s Sweet Tooth Fair, marks the climax of this year’s Wigan Food and Drink Festival and takes place on Friday 12 March and Saturday 13 March.

More than 20,000 people are expected to attend the event and enjoy demonstrations, tastings and purchase sugar filled goodies from 23 of some of the best in the sweet industry.

Keith Bergman of Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust and Wigan Food and Drink Festival Organiser said: “What a great way to finish the festival and start the Mother’s Day weekend.

“This event is for anyone who has a sweet tooth. And it's not just chocolate, that visitors will be able to enjoy. We have food themed street entertainment from singing chefs to giant walkabout Easter Eggs.

“Visitors can watch demonstrations of chocolate making and carving, learn from cake makers and decorators, buy your Mother’s Day and Easter gifts and, of course, there will be plenty of tantalising tastings to keep people energised throughout each day.”

Exhibitors include Grasmere Gingerbread who will have their fresh baked and world famous Gingerbread. Taste of Moorlands of Staffordshire come with their award winning biscuits and treacle tarts. And the UK’s leading high street chocolatier – Thorntons - will also be in town with some very special chocolate wrapped treats.

Regional purveyors of sweetness include;

* Delicious Fruits and Fountains from Lancashire who will be bringing their massive and delicious chocolate fountain.
