Creating a celebration – big thanks to the culture crowd Calling all culture lovers! Do you know a volunteer who makes a positive contribution to in our borough? An unsung hero perhaps who deserves recognition for enriching the cultural life of Wigan Borough? Then we would like to hear from you! Each year the council’s Community Engagement Team together with other agencies organise the Big Thank You awards to celebrate the contribution everyday people and voluntary organisations make to local life. The awards have a different theme each year and this year its culture. The Community Engagement Team are working in partnership with Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust and Wigan and Leigh Council for Voluntary Service (CVS) to organise three events across the Borough. Wigan Council’s Cabinet Champion for Lifestyles, Cllr Brian Baldwin, explains: “The theme for this year will be the contribution made by cultural organisations to their communities, and will provide an opportunity to showcase their achievements. “By cultural organisation we mean a group or network that brings people with common interests together in their community, through cultural activities to celebrate, entertain or educate. “So if this is what you do, then we want to hear from you,” adds Cllr Baldwin. “If your organisation or someone working with you deserves recognition then why not nominate them for Big Thank You award?”
The awards will also give groups and organisations the chance to
showcase their work. There will be three Big Thank You events taking
place in April and May.
