Brassed Off With Christmas

Christmas should be 'band'.

And there's no better band to herald the arrival of the festive season than the talented team of town troubadours that is - the Pemberton Old Wigan Band. The Old Band is aptly named because it can trace its roots back to 1883. And its massed ranks will be ushering in the Christmas spirit this weekend at Mesnes Park with a selection of seasonal sounds.

The event has been organised by the Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust's Park Ranger Service and is free for music lovers everywhere.
Parks Community Liaison Officer Sharon Saunders said: "The scenery of Mesnes Park and the music from the Old Band should be a magical combination. It's free festive fun but should be a perfect and memorable way to start Christmas.

"The Old Band is one of the oldest in the borough and certainly one of the best in the North west, we are very lucky to have them."

Sharon added: "The invitation is for everyone to come on down but make sure you wrap up well because it's getting cold out there." The fun starts at 2pm on Sunday December 21 and the Mesnes Park Café will be open during the interval. Make sure you bring a torch because it will be dark when the band finishes.
