BBC One's ANTIQUES ROADSHOW a "massive success"

BBC Antiques Aroadshow at Robin ParkIt was the event of the year, as Robin Park played host to the BBC's Antiques Roadshow. Robin Park Indoor Sports Centre opened its doors to the local community, and people far and wide, providing them with the opportunity to have their family jewels valued by the experts that have become household names over 25 years on air.

Indeed, there is no doubt that it caught the imagination of the Wigan people as, despite the horrendous weather conditions, they came out in their hundreds (just short of 2000) to be more accurate. In fact the average figure for attendances at this event (1,200) had been achieved before lunchtime and, at the end of the day, the final figure was confirmed as the largest of the series.

Producer of the programme, Michelle Burgess, was complimentary of both the visitors to the event and the staff from Robin Park who had managed the queues all day and ensured that the event went as smooth as possible. She stated: "The whole day has gone especially well, thanks to some excellent items brought in by members of the public and the assistance of the Robin Park staff, who have been fantastic."

Even the host of the programme, Michael Aspel, declared the event "a massive success."

The programme will be aired on BBC1 on Sunday February 8th 2004.
