HAVE YOUR SAY ON HAIGH

Wigan’s Leisure and Culture Trust is developing a plan for the future of Haigh Hall & Country Park and wants to hear from you!

An open day has been planned for Sunday 28th September, 10am – 4pm where people can come along and have their say on the future of Haigh.
The trust will be looking at existing facilities at the town’s most popular attraction and how visitors use the facilities available on site. "Once we have the views of as many people as possible we will be looking at how the Haigh estate can be better managed and developed to meet the needs of all our visitors", said Ian Sturzaker, Deputy Manager at Haigh Hall & Country Park.

People attending the open day will be asked their opinion on things like access, parking, events, sports facilities, gardens, pathways and catering facilities. In addition to sharing their opinions visitors will also be able to enjoy a host of free activities including guided tours of the Hall, arts and crafts and warden led activities in the grounds of the park. There will be transport running from the Plantation Gates on Wigan Lane (opposite Wigan Hospital) to the Hall, disabled parking and refreshments available on the day.

"We want the open day to be a fun day out for everyone attending. In addition to all of the activities on offer we will also be entering everyone who shares their views for the parks future into a prize draw," continued Ian. For further information please contact 01942 832895.

Note to Editors

Editors are invited to send reporters and photographers to the open day at Haigh Hall & Country Park on Sunday 28th September to cover the event.
Set in 250 acres of park and woodland, with magnificent views across the Douglas Valley to the Welsh hills, Haigh Country Park is one of Wigan’s most popular attractions. Previously the home of the Earl of Crawford and Balcarres, Haigh Hall is a listed building dating back to 1850. Amongst the many facilities on site are an information and gift shop, café, The Stables Art and Craft Gallery featuring pottery, embroidery, dried flowers and even portrait painters, sports facilities, model village, gardens, miniature railway and acres of woodlands. There is a dedicated warden service based at Haigh who in addition to being responsible for the upkeep of the park also offer a variety of events and activities for schools and groups. These include historical tours of the Hall, nature sessions, archery, orienteering, rock climbing, barbecue parties, cycle tours and conservation work.
