Image: Rack of LambCome join us again for what is the second Wigan Food & Drink Festival. You are invited to dine and drink with us as we celebrate the tastes and the traditions that make Wigan unique.

The inaugural festival in 2007 was a great success. We enjoyed sell out events, popular demonstrations and massive media attention, all proving that there is an appetite (if you pardon the pun) for such a festival in Wigan.

Our aim as festival organisers, is to showcase the Borough’s quality restaurant sector and the skilled and creative people that work in it, and to rediscover our traditional pubs. And celebrate our proud culinary heritage.

The Main Ingredients
Please use the links to the left to discover more about this year's festival, including:

  • Food and Drink Events - Something for every taste bud! Twenty-Five events over ten days including mini beer festivals, tours, themed restaurant evenings and cookery classes.
  • The Wigan Outdoor Market Kitchen Theatre - Due to popularity, we have extended the Kitchen Theatre to six days, featuring local producer exhibitions, the battle for the title of Minichef 2008, cookery demonstrations by the borough's top chefs, and twice as many free tasting sessions as lat year!
  • Café Culture - A photography exhibition of cafés in cafés! A celebration of the High Street and back street café and its contribution and place in Northern life.
  • The Wigan Fine Food Trail - This year, 20 restaurants will showcase their fayre and flair under one of two themes:
    • Taste Britain brings together restaurants from across the borough, from canal-side to countryside, all with one thing in common, great menus of great British food and regional dishes in particular.
    • Whilst Taste International features restaurants that serve up dishes from across the continent and sub-continents. From tapas to tikka, we will show off wonderfully varied and quality international establishments that you don’t have to leave the Borough to experience.
  • The Road to Wigan Beer - For the second year running, a guide to twenty specially selected pubs each offering real ale and real character.

So between the 3rd - 13th October put less in your shopping trolley and turn off the celebrity chef channels. Come experience good food and drink live. Come celebrate with us in one of our restaurants or pubs; come learn to cook or improve your existing culinary skills - taste and learn of our culinary past and our very bright future.
