Greater Manchester Mini Games

The Greater Manchester Mini Games is a multi-sport competition for primary school teams from each of the Greater Manchester’s 10 Boroughs. The Boroughs are split into two groups of five, Wigan forming part of the Greater Manchester ‘North’ competition.

Each School Sports Partnership have competitions in many of the event sports and the winners go to the Mini Games. The ethos advocated by GreaterSport is to have fun competing against schools from other boroughs in a relaxed environment.

In Wigan, Wigan SDU in association with the School Sports Partnership hold East and West Primary School Festivals with the winners earning the right to represent Wigan at the Greater Manchester Mini Games.

The Primary Schools Festival held in June 2009 was a success consisting of a total of 1496 participants across 103 schools. The west side of the borough had a total 337 boys and 425 girls taking part which made up 101 teams in a variety of sports. The east side of the borough had a total of 262 boys and 292 girls take part, making a total of 67 teams.
