Welcome to Active Living

The
Active Living team is part of the Sport and Healthy Living section of
Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust. We provide programmes to support people
in becoming more physically active to improve their health and quality
of life. We are responsible for maintaining and increasing the number of
people involved in health and physical activity programmes across Wigan
Borough.
The Active Living team also provide targeted physical activity and
health programmes for sedentary adults, priority target groups, e.g.
older adults, learning disabilities, chronic health need, under 5s
(including parents and carers), employees and targeted communities. You
can find out more about each of our programmes, and up to date session
information, by clicking on the relevant link at the left of the page.
We currently provide over 100 activity sessions within the borough each
week.

Volunteers
Active Living offers volunteering opportunities for those wishing to
contribute to society by helping others to increase physical activity
levels and improve their health and quality of life. Volunteers are
provided with training opportunities and constant ongoing support to
help in deliver of a wide variety of physical activity sessions.

OCR Exercise
Instructor Programme
The Active Living Team organise and deliver training programmes for
local people to gain recognised qualifications in the health and fitness
industry. The courses are part of the OCR training programme and include
courses in exercise to music, gym and free weights, circuit training and
aqua aerobics. We also provide training for people to become qualified
as instructors in chair-based exercise and a health walks leaders
course.
