Image: Aqua Aerobics at Howe BridgeThe Active Living Team provides programmes to support people in becoming more physically active to improve their health and quality of life. We are responsible for maintaining and increasing the numbers of people involved in health and physical activity programmes across Wigan Borough. The Active Living Team also provides targeted physical activity and health programmes for sedentary adults, priority target groups, e.g. older adults, learning disabilities, chronic health need, under 5s (including parents and carers), employees and targeted communities.

We currently provide over 120 activity sessions within the borough each week. The range of sessions reflects local needs including:

• Post natal exercise
• Chair based activity classes
• Gentle exercise to music
• Circuit based exercise
• Health walks and cycling
• Tai chi and Pilates
• Water based activity
• Beginners dance sessions

Freelance exercise instructors required. Exercise to Music, Aqua, Tai Chi, Yoga, Pilates and Dance.

Volunteers
Would you like to help people whilst keeping active? Volunteering is a great way to have fun and meet new people and can increase your confidence and self esteem whilst learning new skills! From our activity classes to health walks, full training will be given. For more information, please call the Active Living Team on 01942 488489.

OCR
OCR Exercise Instructor Programme

The Active Living Team organise and deliver training programmes for local people to gain recognised qualifications in the health and fitness industry. The courses are part of the OCR training programme and include courses in exercise to music, gym and free weights, circuit training and aqua aerobics. We also provide training for people to become qualified as instructors in chair-based exercise and a health walks leaders course.
