Bookstart & Book Crawl

Welcome to Bookstart in Wigan!
Bookstart is a national scheme which aims to give a pack of books to
every baby. Babies are never too young to enjoy books and we want to
make reading with your child fun.
Bookstart packs
Each Bookstart pack contains books and other fun activities for
children, as well as information for parents, and an invitation for
parents and children to join the library.
Baby Pack
This is given out by health visitors at the 7 month health check. If a
baby of 7 months to 18 months has missed a pack, parents/carers can ask
for one at any Wigan library.

Toddler Pack
This is given out by health
visitors at the 2 year health check. If a toddler up to 30 months has
not received a pack, parents/carers can ask for one at any Wigan
library.

Treasure Chest
This is distributed at nurseries or early years settings to 3 year olds.
For further details contact the Bookstart team on 01942 827507.

Children with Visual
Impairment
A Booktouch pack is available
for children under 4 years of age with a visual impairment. Contact the
Bookstart team
to request a pack.
Book Crawl
Ask to join
the Book Crawl in your local library. Under 5s receive a collector’s
card and a sticker for each library visit. On every fifth visit, they
will receive a certificate created by a children’s book illustrator.

Rhymetimes and Fun Days
Bookstart hold regular
Rhymetime sessions at venues across the borough. Contact us to find out
more.
