Getting help with the cost of travelling to school

Image: BusIf you live a long way from your nearest school, you’ll probably find it’s a bit expensive to get there and back every day.

Which is why some education bods offer some help in the form of a free school pass that you can use.

There are some rules around this, such as you have to live a specific distance from your school, you can only use it on certain specific journeys to and from school and at certain specific times.

If you need to travel on other journeys, such as to get to work experience, training or other such stuff, you can get what’s called a journey variance voucher which goes along with your free school pass and lets you go other places at different times.

To ask about a free school pass, you’re best advised to contact Wigan Children & Young People’s Services Transport Team. You can give them a call on 01942 48611 or drop them a line at schooltransport@wigan.gov.uk
