Drama in Schools The weekend may have ended but Wigan students will be able to perk up this Monday with a film.A 25-minute soap-style drama called "Making Connexions" is being distributed to local High Schools today (January 17th).The movie features local actors and was shot by a professional film crew shot at various locations across the borough, including Rose Bridge High School and Leigh's Volex Mill. The drama explores the lives of five young characters, examining issues such as teenage pregnancy, alcohol misuse and career choices. Mirabilis Media produced the film under commission from Positive Futures, which delivers the Connexions, Education Welfare and Youth Service in Wigan borough, to introduce the range of support available to young people locally. Director Peter Goodwin said: "We filmed for a total of seven days over four weekends. We had a cast and crew of around twenty and we had to fight against mud, bad weather, barking dogs, planes and car alarms to get good pictures and sound. "However, I think we've managed to create a television standard drama on a fraction of the budget! "Professional actors, members of Wigan Little Theatre and several local young people appear in the film. A support pack, containing the script for the film and a variety of classroom exercises, is being sent to schools with the video. Positive Futures hope the resource will help teachers raise discussion with pupils about the issues in the film. Positive Futures Director for Corporate Services Tony Dann said: "A range of partners, including the Healthy Schools Team, Teenage Pregnancy and the Young People's Drug and Alcohol Team, have made significant contributions to this project in terms cash and/or in kind. I'd like to thank them all for making this film a reality." -ends- |
