What is The LINC Online?
Well, if you’re reading this, you should know by now, but here’s our
spiel anyway:
The LINC online is the definitive website for young people in Wigan
Borough, chock full of news, reviews, your views, things to do, and
probably a few other things that end in ‘oo’.
It’s a place where you can come to find out information on stuff to get
involved in, where to get advice and help with any issues you may have,
and what’s rocking the stereo at LINC HQ, as well as checking out loads
of fun stuff too.

Who are the Youth Information Team?
The Youth Information team are a small group of friendly folk based at
Wigan Leisure & Culture Trust. We’re the people who bring you this
website, The LINC magazine and lots more besides.
We help do our bit to combat the negative stereotypes of young people in
the Borough by publicising your positive achievements through our own
publications and the local media; we help to promote your clubs and
events by producing postcards, posters, flyers and other printed
materials, as well as through the media, and we can also help to make
your voice heard if there’s a particular issue you feel strongly about.
We also drink lots of tea and moan about the weather, but you probably
don’t need to know that.

When’s the next edition of The LINC magazine coming out?
The magazine is produced three-four times per year, usually with a
spring, summer, autumn and winter edition coming out between April and
the following March.
That said, we don’t have any specific dates for when each edition is due
to slide through your letter box. Chances are the only way we know one
is due is when the pressure gets to the magazine’s editor and he has his
latest nervous breakdown. We’re organised like that.

Can I write for the magazine?
Probably. If you’ve never written for us before, we like to ask that you
contribute to our website first, mainly so that we can get a feel for
your writing style and the topics that interest you. That way, when it
comes to putting the magazine together, we’ve a good idea of the things
you might like to write about, and can put ideas for articles your way.
If you’ve already written something and want us to publish it in the mag’,
please send it anyway. We’ll have a look at it, and if we want to use it
in the magazine, we’ll keep it on file until we start work on the next
one. Otherwise, we’ll ask to publish it on LINC Online.

Can I write for the website?
Yes, you can! Given the randomness of The LINC magazine, writing for our
website is probably an easier option if you want to see your work
published. We update this site almost every week and are audience is
growing all the time, so it’s an ideal platform for your work.
If you’ve written something already, have ideas for articles/reviews,
want to become one of our regular correspondents, or just want to write
but aren’t sure what about, drop us a line at
linconline@wlct.org

Can I come in to your office and do work experience?
Again, this is a probably. We always need an extra pair of hands when
it’s time to get the magazine together, so we do take work experience
placements around these times. However, we do get tonnes of enquiries
about this, and sadly it isn’t always possible to accommodate everybody.
If you’re interested in coming to join us for a week or two, please get
in touch at the usual e-mail telling us why you want to come, when
you’re available, and, if you’ve never written for us before, please
attach some examples of your work.

Will you come and interview my band, football team, youth group etc
for an article?
More than likely, yeah. Give us a shout, let us know what you’re up to
and we’ll see what we can do.

You’ve got details of my club/project in your ‘Things To Do’ section,
but they’re all wrong! How do I get them changed?
Easy peasy. E-mail
linconline@wlct.org, tell us which entry needs amending and what
needs changing, and we’ll sort it.
Same thing goes if you want to add your club/project/activity to our
database. Tell us the details and leave the rest to us.

Who do I speak to about Extreme Sports?
Not us! Sorry folks, but although we used to have someone here who dealt
with extreme sports, she’s no longer here and hasn’t been for some time.
That’s not to say there’s nothing going on, there’s still two skateparks
in the borough, but unfortunately the Youth Information team are not in
a position to help with extreme sports enquiries.
WLCT’s Parks team are hoping to develop more extreme sports facilities
across Wigan Borough, for more information, please visit
WLCT's Parks pages.

Can you tell me what there is for young people to do in Ashton / Ince
/ Insert Name of Your Town Here?
If we know about anything going on for young people in any area of the
Borough, you’ll be able to find it on the website in either Things To
Do, which is searchable by both the type of activity and the place where
you live, or What’s On.
We don’t organise activities ourselves, we just help promote them, and
can only promote the stuff that we know about. We won’t keep anything a
secret from you, so chances are that if it isn’t already on LINC Online,
we probably won't know about it. That's not say we won't try and help.
It might be that we can point you in the direction of someone who will
know.
